The Black Eyed Peas have won a copyright lawsuit case that has been running for nearly two years, in a legal battle over whether they ripped off their 2009 worldwide smash Boom Boom Pow.
Back in January 2010 Chicago-based musician Phoenix Phenom, real name Ebony Latrice Batts, claimed BEP had copied the beat to her track 'Boom Dynamite'.
According to AllHipHop.com, Batts had previously submitted the track to Interscope Records in an attempt to get signed. Within a year Boom Boom Pow was released to radio stations, with Boom Dynamite's producers claiming the track bore a strong resemblance to their own.
However, presiding judge John F. Walter ruled the two songs were alike, but not similar enough for the case to be brought before a jury.
It's not the only instance the group have been sued over copyright issues, with funk legend George Clinton filing a lawsuit last year over an allegedly uncleared sample in one of the remixes to Shut Up.
