Janet Jackson has been attacked by fans for launching a fur clothing line, with some writing expletive-filled messages to star on social networking sites.

Model Leilani Dowding, who is seeking to start a petition against the venture, furiously wrote to TaleTela on Facebook: "I am beyond sickened after hearing Janet Jackson is to design a range of fur products… B**ch, you a) need to see how animals are bred and have their fur removed and b) don't need the money... You are simply a C***."

Some of Jackson’s followers on Twitter replied to the announcement of her range, with one posting: "Nice that you're willing to kill innocent animals to make a dollar…disgusting b**ch."

Fans also took to the star’s Facebook page and posted entries like: "VERY disappointed Janet that u r lending ur name 2 this project - what were u thinking."

"Janet, this is so cruel. Please take a second thought on this. I know you love animals just as much as your brother Michael did. He would've never given his name for the cruel killing of animals for fashion."

However, some added: "For those of you who don't like mink and fur, you are broadcasting your anger at the wrong person. Like she actually goes out and kills the animals herself."

Another posted: "Get over it! Yay Janet."
