The world of entertainment was filled with joy and love yesterday as stars woke to the news that the first child of Hip-Hop's power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z, had arrived.

Blue Ivy Carter was born on January 7, and most of the couple's showbiz friends could not wait to congratulate them on their new bundle of joy. Bey checked into the Lennox Hill Hospital in NYC on Saturday and gave birth just hours later to a healthy baby girl.

There was initial confusion about the baby's name, but it was later confirmed to be Blue Ivy. Speculation about meaning of the name quickly ensued but the most logical explanation is that the Blue is in reference to Jay's successful Blueprint album series, while the 'IV' in the middle name is the roman numerals for Bey's favourite number 4.
