Jay-Z has been caught up in controversy surrounding the New York Daily News after the newspaper published an opinion piece suggesting African-American men would be motivated to be more responsible for their children after hearing the rapper celebrate the birth of his daughter on new song, 'Glory.'
In addition to the piece published on the NY Daily News website on Friday, a tweet sent out to publicise the article also caught some heat on Twitter, with the paper later engaging with angry users and having to issue a clarification.
"A lot of other babies are going to benefit," wrote columnist Joanne Malloy, "because Jay-Z's ecstatic reaction to being a dad will be the strongest boost yet to a growing movement in the black community encouraging responsible fatherhood."
While some readers labelled the article as condescending, the accompanying tweet: 'Jay-Z's anthem to fatherhood will hopefully inspire more black men to stick around for their kids' was accused of being downright offensive.
The paper has responded to outraged Twitter users by pointing out the views are the columnist's own.
