Octavia Spencer credited those who fought for black American Civil Rights in the 1960s, during her acceptance speech for The Help at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The Help triumphed at the awards ceremony held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center, taking home three gongs including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Best Actress for Viola Davis.
When Olivia Spencer picked up her award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, she tributed the gong to those who fought for black people to have equal rights in the 60s, saying: "By honouring me, you honour them."
The Help is also expected to win big at the Academy Awards next month.
Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige - who wrote and sung the lead song from the soundtrack to the movie - expressed her anger that she did not receive a nomination for the track at the Oscars.
