Nicole Scherzinger has been axed from X Factor USA after failing to impress the audience.

It seems the former Pussycat Doll has faced the same fate as Cheryl Cole, whom Nicole replaced last year when she was axed from the show in the auditions stage.

A Fox spokesperson confirmed that Nicole will not be returning to the show, while a source told E! Online that she wants to focus on her flailing music career.

"She wants to focus on her music career. She's spoken to Simon [Cowell] and he's given her his blessing," she said.

"X Factor took a lot more of her time than she ever expected. She didn't have any time really to work on her music. She was doing X Factor six days a week," they added.

In addition to Nicole, the show's host Steve Jones will also not be returning to the show.
