New England Patriots' eccentric wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has given his teammates a pre-Super Bowl surprise, splashing out on almost $30k worth of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

The 34-year-old handed out 70 pairs of the popular $400 earpieces just before the team left for a three-hour trip to Indianapolis to prepare for Sunday's big game against the New York Giants, report the Boston Herald.

Sure Ocho's teammates are happy, but Dr. Dre will be even happier. The west coast legend has been steadily expanding his empire from simple, classic-form headphones to speaker systems in laptops, mobile phones and most recently the new fleet of Dodger Chargers.

It's not been plain sailing on the road to world audio domination though. Earlier this year the company was targeted by PETA after releasing a $700 limited edition pair of fox fur-lined headphones.

Perhaps Chad should be saving his money with his upcoming wedding to Evelyn Lozada.
