Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul have confirmed that they will not be returning to The X Factor for a second year.

The two judges - including host Steve Jones - were given the boot by head honcho Simon Cowell, with network Fox confirming the news earlier this week.

Nicole remained silent when the news broke, but has now confirmed that she will not be returning to the talent contest and will instead focus on her music career.

"I wanted to let you know directly from me that it's true I won't be returning to 'The X Factor'. Looking forward to an exciting year ahead and making great music and more! I'm grateful for the love you always give me," she wrote on her Twitter page.

Paula also confirmed the news, tweeting: "Yes, it's true; I won't be returning to The X Factor next season. I want nothing more than for The X Factor to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful."

Simon has thanked all three of the axed members for their work on the show, but he is yet to find replacements.
