Amid reports his flagship clothing company Rocawear is a facing financial doom, Jay-Z has taken matters into his own hands and plans to revive the brand by starring in a new ad campaign documenting his rise to the top of the music world.
The artistic black-and-white TV spots are being produced under the title 'From Marcy to Madison Square' and trace his rise through New York city, presumably in the same flashback style used for Hov's 2007 music video to 'Roc Boys (And the Winner Is...).'
Eyebrows were raised earlier this year when, following a global sales slump of $500m, Jay-Z laid off half of the employees at Rocawear's Manhattan offices a day before the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
Rocawear was started in 1999 by Jay and then business partner Damon Dash, at the height of Roc-A-Fella Records' popularity.
Do you think Jay-Z should bother with a Rocawear revival, or has the label simply gone the way of throwback jerseys and velour tracksuits?
