Busy vacationing on the exclusive island of St Barts, you would think music’s royal super couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé would take time to kick back and relax, especially after including a new addition to their family, Blue Ivy.
But amidst the jet-skiing and soaking up the sun, our Queen Bey has certainly made sure she is kept in the spotlight, recently penning an open letter to First Lady Michelle Obama. In the handwritten letter which she posted on her Tumblr site, Beyoncé praises the First Lady for being the "ultimate example of a truly strong African American woman" as well as gushing how proud she is "to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you [Michelle], to look up to."
The usually private diva has also become more open about her private life, it seems, especially as herself and Jay-Z enter the fourth year of their marriage. The day after their April 4 anniversary, Beyoncé launched a special Tumblr page which displays many of the couple and family’s personal photos. The photos show her in interaction with her sister Solange Knowles, as well as nephew Daniel Juelz.
She can be seen intimately holding hands with husband Jay-Z, as well as posing on a yacht and dressing up in a Spiderman costume. Beyoncé has certainly expanded and revamped her Internet presence first and foremost with more content and a new look for her website, as well as becoming one of many celebrities to sign up to social-networking site Twitter. Having joined Twitter two years ago, and despite her three million plus followers, Bey has never sent out one tweet.
However, she recently broke her Twitter silence a few days ago by using her first tweet to promote her new site, and her Beyhive movement. "Hey World, It’s B! I’m so excited to invite you to my new Beyonce.com – we’ve been working hard, and it’s finally ready for you XO," Bey’s first message read.
It seems her first tweet aimed at publicising and promoting her business, but it was a tweet from her nevertheless. However, let’s not forget about some of the other controversial ‘publicity’ stories which surround Bey in the last few months. After Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards after her performance, record sales for the singer’s latest musical release were boosted.
A special way of announcing to the world the news of her baby joy, or simply a clever publicity stunt? Some suspected that the singer purposely chose the forum to help capitalise on her pregnancy with record sales. More controversially, when the singer appeared on Australian television back in October 2011 for an interview, rumoured surfaced that she has been sporting a fake baby bump, as it has appeared her bump had seemed to ‘collapse’ as she sat down.
However, despite a spokesperson for Beyoncé stating that the accusations were "stupid, ridiculous and false", and Bey herself dismissing the rumours as false, we’ll let you decide. It seems whatever Bey does, news will always surround her on whether what she does can be considered a ploy to attract more media attention, or if it really is just genuine excitement for what she does.
The Houston native queen of Pop certainly does like to go all out with a bang, as can be seen by the news of the couple reportedly paying 1.3 million dollars to a Manhattan Hospital for the birth of their daughter, as well as bringing in a security team to bolster the Hospital’s already expanded force. But hey, when you’re Jigga and Bey, only the best will do, right?
Has having Blue Ivy changed our once fiercely private pop queen to become more publicly open, or is it all just a publicity stunt to keep the media focus on the super couple? There’s no doubt we admire Beyonce for her music, her energy, and the woman she is, but please Bey, keep it real!
