Jennifer Hudson and her sister Julia have become "inseparable" since the murders of their family members in 2008.
The trial of Williams Balfour, who stands accused of slaying Jennifer's mother Darnell, brother Jason and Julia's son, Julian, begins today during which the Dreamgirls actress may take to the stand to testify.
A family friend of Jennifer and Julia says that the sisters have been brought closer together by the tragedy.
"This is devastating for them, but the bond they share is what’s keeping them together and is how they’re going to get through it," Harvey Star Washington told the NY Post.
"They learned so much from their mom. She taught them to be strong, to never give up — keeping their heads lifted up to let people know that, through tragedy, you can go on and you can still be the best you can be."
Washington says that the pair are going to find it tough to face the man accused of murdering the people closest to them. "Going into a court to face the murder trial of three of your family members is hard," he said.
"It’s something that you don’t want to relive again."
