D'Angelo is making a return to the stage ten years after his last U.S. performance.
The reclusive singer has been out of the music scene for years, following a highly-publicised battle with drink and drugs.
However, following a small European tour earlier this year, D'Angelo is ready to make a comeback, being booked to perform on the opening night of the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
As well as the hits that propelled him to fame during the mid and late '90s, fans can expect to hear music from his much-delayed new project James River, a follow-up to 2000's Platinum-selling Voodoo.
D'Angelo isn't the only big name booked for the Essence Music Festival, whichs runs from July 6 to July 8. Trey Songz, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige are also slated to appear.
