Jennifer Hudson has prayed for former brother-in-law William Balfour after he was convicted of murdering three of her family members.
The Dreamgirls actress was present in court yesterday as the ex-husband of her sister Julia was found guilty of murdering their mother Darnell, brother Jason and Julia's seven-year-old son Julian.
Jennifer and Julia released a statement shortly after the verdict was announced, saying:
"We have many people to thank but our first thank you is to God, always. We are so grateful to prosecutors James McKay, Jennifer Bagby and Veryl Gambino and State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and her team for their dedication and tireless work from the beginning."
"We have felt the love and support from people all over the world and we’re very grateful. We want to extend a prayer from the Hudson family to the Balfour family."
"We have all suffered terrible loss in this tragedy... It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday."
In addition to the murder charges, Balfour was also found guilty of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
His verdict carries a mandatory life sentence. Balfour and his attorney are expected to appeal the verdict.
