Multi-millionaires Ben and Kate Goldsmith have confirmed they are to divorce after nine years of marriage, following reports she has been having an affair with Roc Nation rapper Jay Electronica.

The separated couple have been trading insults at each other over Twitter during the last week, which saw Ben accuse Kate of not putting their children's best interests first, and Kate revealing in a lengthy rant that their marital problems began a few years ago.

Jay's name was brought into the fight when Ben, son of Sir James Goldsmith, allegedly discovered explicit text messages between Kate and the rapper.

Now, in a joint statement, the Goldsmiths have confirmed they are to divorce. 

"We are both deeply saddened that our marriage has ended after nine years."

"It is a matter of regret that, at a time when our emotions and those of our friends have run high, things have been said in public which should have been kept private. We accept our share of responsibility."

"There will be no further comment."

Kate and Jay became friends after she signed up as his manager under her record company.
