Ahead of his planned comeback at this year's Essence Festival next month, D'Angelo surprised fans with an unscheduled appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee this Saturday.
The crowd, expecting to see a 'superjam' by members of The Roots, Parliament Funkadelic and The Time, were treated to an extra-special addition in the form of the celebrated singer, who was introduced onstage by Roots drummer Questlove.
Marking his first appearance on stage in the U.S. for over a decade, after battling problems with drink and drugs, D'Angelo picked from where he left off in the early part of the millennium, dropping butter-smooth vocals over a cover of The Beatles' 'She Came In Through The Bathroom Window'.
As part of his upcoming series of comeback shows the 38-year-old has been announced to appear at Jay-Z's 'Made In America' festival in Philadelphia this September.
