Rihanna is taking on her first role as an actress after landing a role in 'Battleship', a science-fiction board-game adaptation.

The film which will be directed by Peter Berg will be RiRi's first appearance on the big screen, following in the footsteps of her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown who has had several parts in film now.

Variety reports that the 'Te Amo' singer has joined the cast of 'Battleship' which includes Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård. There isn't any information on Rihanna's character but, Kitsch and Skarsgård will play brothers who will lead a multinational task force in order to prevent an alien invasion.

The Universal film is set for release on 25th May 2012.
