DMX handed himself into authorities on Monday so he can begin a three-month sentence in prison.
The rapper, whose name is Earl Simmons, filmed an interview with MTV News in while he spoke about why he was handing himself into Los Angeles Metropolitan court.
DMX said: "What's going on today is that I'm going to turn myself in. "Me and my crew, we came to the conclusion that would be best. It was something that happened years ago, a driving in infraction."
He also added that he thinks that by turning himself in it will allow him to focus on his music again once he's out.
"I like LA, I like the fans, I like to come out here to work. I wanna get that over with. It's one of the first steps in regaining everything I lost."
DMX is only expected to be released early from his 90-day sentence because of overcrowding in the prisons.
