It comes as no surprise that late pop legend Michael Jackson has been named the most downloaded artist of all time.

According to Nokia's Ovi Music Store that records sales of music from around the world, the king of pop has beaten the likes of Lady Gaga and Elvis Presley to be crowned the most downloaded solo artist ever.

Musicologist, Geoff Roberts said: "Michael Jackson has always been a pop music legend. But the anniversary of his death and birthday celebrations seem to have revived Jackson fever as fans rediscover his songs – making him the most popular solo artist of all time."

The first anniversary of Jackson's death was on the 25th of June, followed by what would have been his 52nd birthday which was on the 29th of August and was celebrated by fans all over the world, including celebrations that took place outside Jackson's childhood home in Gary, Indiana and included Jackson's father, Joe Jackson.

In addition to this there was a surge in twitter updates as hundreds of thousands of fans of the 'Thriller' singer followed in the footsteps of Jackson's nephew Taj, who started off the trend of tweeting birthday wishes to Jackson with the tag 'messages to Michael'.
