Whoopi Goldberg is an Oscars veteran having hosted the prestigious event four times and so she was able to judge the performance of this year's hosts, James Franco and Anne Hathaway, but they didn't impress her. At all.
Although Goldberg concedes that she likes the two as actors, she didn't think that Oscar bosses got it right when they picked them as presenters for a live show.
Goldberg discussed their performance during her live chat show The View yesterday, and claimed that the Academy Awards bosses should've picked presenters who understood how a live show operated.
The Oscar-winner said: "You've got to get people who understand a live show. The first few minutes of that show is yours.
"I understand what they (Oscars producers) were trying to do... and I like James Franco a lot. I like Anne Hathaway a lot. But this is a show that, it's on you to keep it going. It's on you. You have to be able to surf in this show. And I didn't think they surfed as much as they could have."
It seemed that in Goldberg's opinion the presenters should've also stepped in during Melissa Leo's acceptance speech for 'Best Supporting Actress', after she dropped the F word.
She said: "You have to recognize... when things happen like that, you have to be able to come and lift the audience out of their shock and move the show forward. I felt like last night there was no one in charge."
