Shakira has donated $400,000 to help rebuild a girls school in Haiti.

The 'Underneath Your Clothes' singer will be donating the cash after the school was damaged by the earthquake last year.

The huge sum of money will be matched by the Inter-American Development Bank for the Port-au-Prince school.

In a statement about the school, Shakira said: "I'm convinced the key to achieve a dignified future for the Haitian people is through education."

She continued: "I'd like to say to the girls that this is an enormous opportunity that life is offering you - education. So make the most of it because I'm sure you can achieve any of your dreams."

Before the earthquake hit at the beginning of last year, Shakira had already vowed to help refurbish the educational depart of the Eli Dubois school after visiting.
