Black Eyed Peas hopes to host a free concert in New York City had to be cancelled at the last minute because of heavy thunderstorms.

The group were to host the event at Central Park's Great Lawn last night (June 9) but had to postpone the concert due to the bad weather.

Taboo tweeted on behalf on the band on Twitter, he said: "Fergie is really sorry it's not happening we feel horrible .. We are devastated and Fergie told me to tweet this she loves u all.

"I hope that the concert will be rescheduled ASAP, our pea-ple deserve it, my peaple from chase and robinhood deserve this NYC we love u. (sic)"

Around 60,000 people were expected to enjoy the show hosted by the Black Eyed Peas and several were let into the arena but it was cancelled at 8.15pm, reports Billboard.

The line-up included LL Cool J, Taylor Swift and Natasha Bedingfield and was in aid of the Robin Hood Foundation which is an anti-poverty effort in New York.

There has not been an official rescheduled date yetm but the announcement on the organisation's site read: "We are sorry to announce that the 'Concert 4 NYC' has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Thanks for your support."
