Most parents-to-be are apprehensive before the birth of their children and are careful to avoid jinxing it, but that hasn't stopped Victoria Beckham appointing Eva Longoria as godmother to her unborn daughter.

The 'Desperate Housewives' star is said to be "honoured" to be asked to carry out the important duty for Victoria and husband David Beckham.

Beckhams' new arrival is due on July 4, and Longoria has already helped host a baby shower ahead of the impending birth.

A friend of the couple, who already have three sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz, told The Sun: "Victoria ran it past David and they both want Eva. She's extremely honoured."

Longoria was one of Victoria's first close friends whent he former Spice Girl relocated to Los Angeles in 2007 and only recently the 'Desperate Housewives' actress threw a pink-themed baby shower at Petit L'Ermitage hotel in West Hollywood. Party decorations included pink flowers, chairs and tablecloths.

Tweeting after the party, Beckham wrote: "Such a lovely day!!!thank u so much @EvaLongoria and @KenPaves for being such wonderful friends.Baby showers are so much fun!!!!!!!x vb (sic)"
