Shakira has visited Israel to attend the Israeli Presidential Conference in Jerusalem despite calls for her to boycott the visit.
The 'She Wolf' singer attended the conference, which was co-funded by Israeli President Shimon Peres and is held every 18 months to discuss trends in politics, science and culture.

Over 1,500 fans joined a Facebook group appealing to the singer and UN Goodwill Ambassador to boycott the country because of its alleged human rights absuses against Palestinians. By visiting Israel the group suggested that Shakira was supporting the ill treatment of Palestinians by engaging with Israeli political leaders.
During the visit, Shakira reportedly told press that she was happy to be "in the land that has been the mother of cultures and spirituality for so long".
