Shanell has revealed that she was "mad" that Lil Wayne's single 'How To Love' wasn't her track, and it spurred her to release the remix, which really surprished the Young Money boss.
The Cash Money singer-songwriter reveals how she shocked Weezy, and how the pair have been talking about performing a duet on stage of his upcoming second leg of the 'I Am Still Music' tour.
In an interview with Mixtape Daily, Shanell said: "I guess when I first heard the song, I was mad that it wasn't mine, because I really liked it."
In the female version, Shanell sings about a man who has been hurt by girls in the past and how she learns to forgive him for his cheating ways.
"It's really stuff that I've dealt with in relationships that I've been in," Shanell explained. "Instead of getting upset with the guy, kind of feeling bad for him. Like, 'You're cheating and I feel bad for you,' rather than, 'I'm mad at you because you just don't know or appreciate what you have. You're too busy trying to be like your favorite rapper."
But while Weezy released 'How To Love' independently, Shanell believes her version couldn't have worked without his track first.
"I think my version wouldn't be as great as it was if it there wasn't [Wayne's] version for people to hear that side of the story," she said.
The duo could be hooking up on stage for a mash-up of both songs, as Weezy likes the idea of a female and male version interaction on stage.
"He was really, really surprised that I did it, and he thought it sounded really, really good. We're talking about maybe even doing some sort of back and forth thing on the road, on the upcoming tour."
Would you like to see these two perform their versions on stage - together!?
