R Kelly has been forced to cancel a show in Jamaica after undergoing emergency throat surgery. The R&B crooner was due to play a set at the Reggae Sumfest festival in Jamaica, however, he was rushed to hospital to have the operation.

The 44-year-old had been complaining of pain in his throat earlier in the day, and went to visit a doctor who found that he had an abscess on his tonsils. A statement was released confirming the singer's surgery, saying: "R&B superstar R.Kelly will be laid up for an indefinite amount of time after undergoing an emergency procedure at Northwestern Memorial Hospital yesterday to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils."

"Kelly had visited a throat specialist earlier in the day complaining of severe throat pain."

Addressing whether or not Kells will be able to return to the stage soon, the statement continued: "It is not known when the multiplatinum recording star, who just completed the U.S leg of his worldwide Love Letter Tour, will be able to resume performing."

Kelly was just one in a list of big names performing at the festival in Montego Bay, including: Nicki Minaj, Beenie Man, Mya and Elephant Man.

Speedy recovery R Kells!
