DMX is back behind bars after U.S. federal officers tracked him down to an island off the coast of Florida.

A bench warrant was issued for the star's arrest after he missed a court appearance in Arizona on Friday, where he was due to face charges of drug possession, identity theft and animal cruelty.

A $5,000 reward was offered for his capture, and FBI agents tracked him down to a residence on Palm Island, off Miami Beach, on Tuesday, reports TMZ.

DMX - real name Earl Simmons - is currently being held in Miami-Dade County jail.

A bench warrant was also issued on the rapper - who has been arrested numerous times over the past year - in September when he missed a previous appearance at an Arizona court after being hospitalised for symptoms reportedly associated with a stroke. He later appeared for a short hearing.
