Mutya Buena has won the rights to the Sugababes name after a lengthy court battle.

The singer, who left the band in 2005 so that she could pursue a solo career, is now the official owner of the Sugababes name and is listed on the EU Trademark owner.

Writing to her fans on Facebook, Buena wrote: "I won the official name of the Sugababes now!!! I deserve this! I'm over the moon!"

She later added: "in tears feels like a dream (sic)."

The singer has limited rights of the name and has secured the rights to goods listed under Class 16 alone.

On the EU Trademark website, this means that Buena owns Sugababes rights to "paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials, not included in other classes; namely stationery, paper gift wrap and paper gift wrapping ribbons".

None of the original members, Buena, Siobhan Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan are still in the group.

The current line-up is Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen. The current group are working on the Sugababes' eight studio album, which is set for release later this year.

Updated: Earlier this year, on April 21, a decision was made by the Office For Harmonization In The Internal Market Trade (Trade Marks Department), wherein Sugababes successfully acquired the rights to the name “Sugababes” in all categories pertaining to the band’s areas of activity in the music, sound recording and entertainment industry.
