Despite Beyonce announcing her big news, the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards threw up other surprises with the winners on the night.

Bruno Mars, Tony Bennett and Russell Brand paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, while Lady Gaga and Britney Spears nearly kissed on stage.

British singer Adele collected three awards last night, while Chris Brown went home with zero.

Tyler, the Creator may not have won 'Video of the Year' for 'Yonkers' having been beaten by Katy Perry's 'Firework', but he did manage to beat Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean to 'Best New Artist'.
