When Beyonce announced that she was pregnant at the MTV Video Music Awards, the singer set a new all-time record on Twitter beating the death of Michael Jackson.

The news spread across the social networking website with 8,868 tweets per second during her performance at the awards ceremony.

Beyonce tore open her sparkly tuxedo jacket to reveal a growing baby bump, and the camera panned out to show an excited Jay-Z and Kanye West congratulating him.

The '1+1' singer's news beat the previous record which was held after Japan won the Women's World Cup in July with 7,196 posted messages per second.

BeyBey's news also beat posts about Osama Bin Laden's capture and death earlier this year as well as Michael Jackson's death in 2009.
