Eddie Murphy has been confirmed as the host of 2012's Academy Awards, after several reports that he was in talks to front the ceremony.
The Oscars producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer confirmed the Shrek star as the host of the 84th ceremony. Eddie released a statement confirming the news, saying: "I am enormously honoured to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg among others."
He continued: "I'm looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognise the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year."
The 2012 Academy Awards will take place at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood, on February 26.
