Nicole Richie has celebrated her 30th birthday with two celebrations, one of which she wass surrounded by most members of her family.

The reality TV star was treated to a lunch with her girlfriends on Tuesday before having a lavish night out with family on the eve of her actual birthday, September 21. Nicole's husband Joel Madden tweeted his thanks to everyone who made her birthday special. He wrote on his Twitter: "Oh what a night. Too many special people to name. Happy birthday to my beautiful wife. Thanks to all my friends for celebrating with us."

Nicole then tweeted on her own page: "My grandma better step it up this year & give me a 10 dollar bill for my birthday tomorrow."

She later joked around by posting a picture of her and husband Joel with the caption: "Mr. and Mrs. Over The Hill."
