Michael Jackson's family were the picture of grief yesterday as they left a Los Angeles courthouse following the first day of the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray into the singer's death.

Murray faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and the first day of the trial heard the opening statements from the defence and prosecutor teams in addition to the first witness, choreographer Kenny Ortega.

While the family were not filmed in the courthouse, most can imagine the feeling of anger and grief they felt listening to the evidence which included showing a picture of Michael after he had passed lying on a gurney in the hospital in addition to an audio clip of the star slurring his words while dosed up on Propofol - the drug that eventually killed him.

Janet and Latoya covered their eyes with huge sunglasses while father Joe and mother Catherine braved the hoards of crowds and journalists surrounding the court.
